NCL Escape - Day 1 (Embarkation & Sail Away)

NCL Escape - Day 1
(Embarkation & Sail Away)

Off to the ship we go in the free shuttle from Miccosukee Resort & Casino.  With only a 30 minute ride away, we were dropped off right in front of the port entrance.  That was a bonus as there were many people at the entrance trying to get onboard and of course many people getting off the ship from the previous cruise.  We arrived at 11AM and headed through security to check in.

With only a ½ hour wait, we were the first group to get onboard. As soon as we are onboard, guess who we run into? Klaus!! Klaus Lugmaier, Norwegian Cruise Line's top hotel director, is an expert when it comes to launching new ships for the line. He is the head of every ship on NCL and their functionality.  He was in the middle of doing some training but it was a real treat to see him.

Then we we went to the internet café.  Couple of bargains here but glad we waiting to purchase it onboard.  You have the opportunity, which is not offered on NCL’s “My NCL” log in page, to get the Unlimited Internet Package for $209! Well worth it for a 7 day cruise and did I say “unlimited?”  You can be on the internet, forget to log off, etc and not get charged!

Next stop, visiting the different public areas.  Even though most are not opened yet, you have the opportunity to explore the ship, visit different public areas and make reservations for dinner.  Perfect opportunity if you didn’t already pre arrange them.  After the visit to the public areas, we went to Jimmy Buffett's Margaretville to try a famous Margarita! Margaritaville is a song that Jimmy Buffet wrote back in 1977.  This song was written about a drink Buffett discovered at Lung's Cocina del Sur restaurant on Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas, and the first huge surge of tourists who descended on Key West, Florida around that time. In the United States "Margaritaville" reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and
went to number one on the Easy Listening chart, also peaking at #13 on theHot Country Songs chart. Billboard ranked it number 14 on its 1977 Pop Singles year-end chart. It remains Buffett's highest charting solo single. Named for the cocktail margarita, with lyrics reflecting a laid-back lifestyle in a tropical climate, "Margaritaville" has come to define Buffett's music and career and Inspired by the lyrics and philosophy of Jimmy Buffett, Margaritaville transports guests to the island destination of their memories or their dreams and invites guests to raise a glass and take a bite out of paradise. Even though it was a little pricy, it’s a nice experience to just get one drink.  Then it was off to the Garden Café to have some lunch.  I love the Garden Café as the food is fresh, drinks are abound and the mango iced tea is refreshing.

Next to the assigned Munster station for the drill.  This is mandatory and everyone who is a passenger, including crew, must attend.

After that, we headed to the cabin and had some nice surprises awaiting us.  Bon Voyage celebration decorations in our room with a cake!  Ok, diet is out the window at this point but well worth it!

As the day went on, you get the “Freestyle Daily Schedule” to check out all the activities that are onboard and plan your schedule ahead of time.  Don’t worry though.  I will post the schedules they had per day so that you can read them over should you be on this cruise at some point.

Since there was so much to do and see the first day that if you have never been on a cruise, it can be a little overwhelming.  Since this was my 72 cruise and JC’s very 1st one, it was a great opportunity to show him all that the cruise ship and cruising has to offer.  Plus, he has a personal tour guide!

The majority of our day after was going to poolside for the sail away party, hitting the casino, eating dinner at O’Sheehans and just having fun!

You meet so many great people and get to interact with the staff and find out some great information and learn something new every time, even for the seasoned cruiser.

The Welcome Aboard Variety Show at night is a must on your first day onboard.  That is a great show to see. The show not only features all the ships crew but you get a taste of every show onboard, for example the Brat Pack, After Midnight, and special guest Brenda Braxton!  A really great event, so don’t miss out on that!  Then, before you go to bed, make sure you check the Freestyle Daily Schedule to plan what you will do the next day.

It’s boring on a cruise??? I think not….
